Mysashop (‘My South American Shop’) is a small business started in 2008 and run by Henry Sanchez Rodriguez and Judy Duijn which stocks fair trade products from Ecuador. Henry is Ecuadorian and Judy has also lived there.
We work with indigenous families in the north of Ecuador to bring you colourful, often still hand-made products. We also develop products with them from time to time, always making sure we pay fair prices to the artisan families, as well as ensuring we keep our prices as low as possible here in Australia so that a quicker turn-over means a faster re-ordering with those in Ecuador. We have first-hand seen the difference this can make, with basic home improvements and affordability of university education just some examples of how our arrangements are win-win.
Yearly trips to Ecuador to source new products and a very hands-on approach to the export process means that we can continue to offer good value products. As Ecuador’s currency is the American dollar, this has had some impact of late, however, we remain dedicated to the affordability of our products!
Ecuador is one of the most bio-diverse countries in the world, rich in culture and Incan heritage. Much of this can be found reflected in their fabric patterns, especially in bags and tablecloths. For example, all animals featured in fabrics can be found in Ecuador; condors and spectacle bears from the Andes, pink dolphins from the Amazonian rivers, Galapagos Islands tortoises, and hummingbirds from the cloud forests. We look forward to sharing it all with you as we continue to expand our newly created online shop. Drop us a line or ask a question, we always love hearing from you. Enjoy our shop!
